John and Vanessa

Dear Birthmother,

We are John and Vanessa; high school sweet hearts, who married in college, and have grown more in love over the past 14 years. We believe in God, each other, love, imperfection, forgiveness, and following dreams.

We would love to have the opportunity to know you, as well. We fully recognize the choice you are making is one of the most difficult a woman can face. We are so honored to be considered as adoptive parents to your baby. We are praying for you, as you journey through your pregnancy and plan for the future.

These are the things we desire to give our future child……

We want to give her a strong foundation of love and identity. Our hearts are wide open to the child God will send us…her ethnicity, personality and talents all being uniquely hers and equally valued in our family. We want to give her confidence as she learns to find joy in the world around her. We want her to know, as much as she can, about her strong first roots, you and God. We want to give her peace knowing she was carried with love, born into love, and will unconditionally be loved by God, and us, her entire life.

We promise to always honor you in thought and speech, as her irreplaceable first parent.

We want her to grow into the woman that God created her to be. We promise to stand with and guide her as she discovers what makes her unique. We will support her as she follows her dreams.

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.” (Hebrew 11:1). We are convinced that through your life, our lives, and your child’s life God is writing a story much greater than all of us. Our prayers are with you as you make this courageous decision.

 With Love,

John and Vanessa

John and I met at church when we were 15 years old. We went to Junior and Senior prom together. Later, we attended the same college and married our Senior year of College. We are best friends that fell in love. We could not be more opposite in personality. John likes to constantly be active and Vanessa likes to take things a little slower. This year we will celebrate our 15th anniversary! 15 years of marriage has been a journey worth taking…. with lots of grace, laughter, adventures, getting help when we need it, and a willingness to stick together through the good days and hard days. God willing, we look forward to celebrating another 50 years together.

God and family are most important to us. We enjoy food, travel, laughing, and activities that the kids love doing.

Meet John (in the eyes of Vanessa)

“John has a heart of gold and an amazing work ethic. He balances his work and home life with ease. He loves deeply and provides for our family: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He keeps me laughing and inspires me to follow my dreams. He’s my best friend.”

Meet Vanessa (in the eyes of John)

“Vanessa is a sweet, compassionate, fiery strong, woman of God. She loves unconditionally and fills our house with grace and safety. Vanessa is wonderfully goofy, fun, and every bit of my heart and the heart of our boys.”

We live in a two story home, with four bedrooms, and 3.5 baths. We love to spend time with our family and entertain friends at home. Our southern back porch is our favorite place to be. You can find us there visiting with friends and watching the kids play in our flat back yard. We live on .5-acre lot on two cul-de-sacs with kids everywhere. We have two swimming pools in our neighborhood that get lots of use by us.

Our home is 1.5 miles to the kid’s elementary school where Vanessa spends a lot time volunteering with the PTO. The schools in our community are rated the best in the state. John’s office is 15 minutes away. Our community is a very close knit community. We run into people we know everywhere we go.

We have three boys that keep us busy with activities. Throughout the year, the boys are involved in different sports. Our oldest loves baseball and wants to run track. Our middle is trying out hockey and loves swim team. Our youngest has tried baseball and fallen in love with swimming. We love to attend our kid’s events and cheer them on.

We have several family traditions. Family dinners, church, and holidays are all important parts of our family life. We try to have family dinners daily: we sit around the table, say a prayer, eat a homemade meal, and talk about life. We love to attend church with our family. Taking the time to connect with our community and reset our hearts and mind on God is a non-negotiable. Holidays are filled with traditions. We spend some time traveling to visit with family near and far. Here are a few of our Holiday traditions:

  • New Year’s Day: we host a party. Vanessa makes southern black eyed peas and collard greens for good luck.
  • Valentines: Valentines breakfast for the family, complete with decorations and candy.
  • Easter: Easter Baskets, Easter Egg Hunts, Coloring Eggs, Church, and Easter Brunch.
  • 4th of July: Spent at the beach watching fireworks.
  • First Day of School: Everyone gets “a cookie as big as your face” when they get home from the first day of school each year.
  • Halloween: Costumes, Trick or Treating (our neighborhood is busy with kids), and Fiesta Soup for dinner.
  • Thanksgiving: We have a Thankful Bowl for the month of November that everyone adds to daily, Turkey Feast with extended family, and Christmas Tree decorating.
  • Christmas: Cookie Decorating, Elf on the Shelf, Christmas Cards, Wish Lists, traveling to see family and giving to those in need.
  • Birthdays: the birthday person gets to choose the dinner meal, eat off a special birthday plate, party, cake and gifts.

We first spoke of adoption when we were dating. We both remember being on a date, sitting on a rock in front of a waterfall, and realizing that the dream of adoption was something we both shared. This is a dream that has stayed on our hearts throughout the years. We have always wanted between 3-4 kids. God blessed us, through those years, with three strong and healthy boys who light up our world. A few years ago we started longing to add one more child to our family, a little girl. Along with our deep desire to have a daughter, came our deep longing to adopt. Sometimes dreams and desires take years to be fulfilled, and we believe God put the dream of adoption on our hearts all those years ago for this very time.
