Adoption Information Act introduced into U.S. Senate

September 26, 2013

With all the press given to Congress’s attempts to pass a budget and terrorist’s attacks across the world, a very important piece of adoption legislation went somewhat unnoticed this week. U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) announced the introduction of legislation into the Senate this week that would require family planning service projects and programs to promote adoption.

What a win for adoption!

The bill requires any family planning service who has received federal grants (i.e. Planned Parenthood) to provide each person who comes to them to discuss family planning (we call it abortion) with a pamphlet of all the adoption centers in that state along with their contact information. The pamphlets will be created, updated and distributed by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department using funds they have already been given to support these family planning services.

For too long, women in painful, frightening situations have been told they have a choice but they only have one choice: abortion. This legislation will require agencies to provide a more full view of a woman’s choice, which includes adoption.

Our own Senator Thad Cochran (R.-Miss.) said, “Actively promoting the benefits of adoption can open the doors for more children to be placed with loving families.  This measure would instruct family planning agencies to spread the word about adoption services, and to do so within the Department of Health and Human Services budget.”

Please contact your Senators and ask them to vote yes on the Adoption Information Act (S. 1539). You can do something to support the cause of adoption.
