We know how much you care about your unborn child’s future. As a birth mother, it’s natural to want to understand exactly how the adoption process works. While this might feel a little overwhelming at first, most birth mothers are relieved to learn that they have a lot of control over the process. Every birth mother deserves to be treated with respect, and birth mothers are some of the most selfless people we have ever met. If you’re making an adoption plan for your unborn child, check out the three things to consider below:
Make a List of Your Values
A lot of birth mothers have a specific picture in mind when they consider what kind of life they want their unborn child to have. Some women would like the child to have siblings. Others would prefer to place their child into a home without other siblings. Some women would like their child to grow up with a family who loves the outdoors, while another woman might want a creative and artistic family. As the birth mother, you are in the driver’s seat. Before you start the adoptive family selection, make a list of things that are most important to you. This will be helpful as you look at different adoptive family profiles, but some birth mothers just have a feeling in their heart when they find the right match.
Consider an Open, Closed, and Semi-Open Adoption
Which adoption option is the best for you and your unborn child? It usually depends on the situation, and every birth mother feels differently about these options. It can be difficult to know what kind of contact you would like to have with the child after they are born. Some mothers would like limited contact while others feel it would be best to have no contact. We want every birth mother to know that there is no wrong decision in this. Make a choice that you believe is the best one for both you and your unborn child. We are always more than happy to talk through these options with you.
Learn About Awaiting Families
At New Beginnings Adoptions, we have a list of families already waiting to bring a child into their loving home. We interview all of our families to make sure that they are the right fit for our birth mothers. If you’d like to learn more about these families, we encourage you to read more about them. Some birth mothers read about a specific family’s story, and they immediately know that they are the perfect fit. For other birth mothers, it might be harder to decide. There is no wrong way to approach this. We want you to feel comfortable and confident about your decision!
