WAITING FAMILIES

Eric and Samantha

Dear Birthmother,

We see you. We know you have been faced with only difficult choices since you found out you were expecting. We want to thank you so much for choosing adoption; this could not have been an easy decision, and we applaud your incredible strength. It is humbling that you would consider choosing us to care for the precious life that you are carrying. We would be so honored to accept the responsibility of raising your beautiful baby as our own.

About Us

If you had asked me (Samantha) when I was younger, I would’ve said I would NEVER date someone that I met online… but never say never! Although we had briefly met each other in person years ago, we didn’t really “know” each other. Many years later, we reconnected when we were both added to a singles’ group on Facebook. After interacting through posts for a while, Eric finally decided to send me a DM, and we’ve been talking ever since. We dated for six months, and quickly knew that we wanted to be together for the rest of our lives, so Eric popped the question, and we were married 4 months later. A total of 10 months from our first date to our wedding day – talk about a whirlwind romance!

We’ve now been married for almost 5 years, and even through the highs and lows, we still believe it’s one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. We’ve made wonderful memories, and one beautiful baby boy.

I’m grateful that Eric works so hard to provide for our family, and his hard work makes it possible for me to live my dream – being a stay-at-home-mom to our son and any future children.

We also enjoy serving together at our local church; we are both on the music team, with Samantha serving as the music director, and Eric serves as the director of the small group Bible Studies.

Our Home / Community

Our home has 3 bedrooms, and 2.5 bathrooms. One of our favorite areas in the house is the  spacious family room downstairs that we use as a playroom; we love to spend time playing together as a family. We have a fully fenced-in backyard where we love to splash in the kiddie pool, visit with friends around the firepit, or kick the soccer ball around.

We live in a pleasant, quiet community, and we live right next door to one of Eric’s close friends. His daughter and our son, Lukas, love to play together in the little playhouse, on the swing, in the pool, or just running around together. We live near the Middle School, a park, and the public pool. We often like to go for walks around the neighborhood on some cool evenings, and let Lukas set the pace while he explores.

We are only about 10 minutes from our fun, beautiful downtown, so new adventures are always just a short car ride away!

Family Activities / Traditions

Samantha and Lukas try to keep busy during the week, often going to the library for story time, trying out new parks, and visiting our local Children’s Museum to play, explore, and meet other kids and parents. On weekends, we love to spend quality time together as a family. We hang out at home, go for walks, and just kind of go with the flow.

We are both very close to our families, and we try to spend time with them as much as we can – from family lunches a few times a month to family vacations! We rent a lakehouse with Samantha’s family over the Labor Day long weekend every year, and it is one of our favorite traditions. We take the pontoon to a little ice cream shop on the lake, and enjoy our frozen treats while we float on the open water.

In the fall, we head to the orchard for wagon rides, mini tractors, big slides, and a corn pit! We go see the Christmas lights at our local zoo/park every winter. We absolutely love to look back on photos of these traditions, and see how much Lukas has grown, and how some things have changed and how others stay the same.

Our Adoption Journey

I (Samantha) have always known that I wanted to adopt. Eric was open to the idea, but we decided to first grow our family with a biological child, and then pursue adoption. We had been married for almost 2 years when I got pregnant with our son, Lukas. We had already decided that he would be our only biological child, and that decision was quickly confirmed by medical professionals when they told us the I had developed HELLP (a rare, potentially fatal pregnancy complication). Lukas had to be delivered 2 months early, and the doctors told me that any future pregnancies would put me at high risk for developing this condition again. It was a hard diagnosis to hear, but it was made easier by the fact that we knew adoption was our future.

Now here we are 2 years later, and we’re so happy to be on this journey toward adding another precious life to our family. Adoption stories are always a blend of beauty and brokenness, and we feel honored to be just a part of the story.
