WAITING FAMILIES

James and Abby

Dear Birthmother,

We have thought much about what we could say that would ‘measure up’ or ‘be enough’ but quickly found out we never could. We wanted to start by saying, thank you. We are so unbelievably grateful for your bravery and strength to even be considering adoption. We are not naïve to the fact that this is an extremely difficult decision for you. Although our words will always fall short, we promise that any and every child that enters our home will be loved, cherished, and adored. It is not lost on us that due to the most selfless act done by you, we get to become parents. We think often of the birthmother of our future child and spend much time in prayer for you. We are praying for a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery, comfort during the hard days, and for the decisions you are making or are in the process of making. We are eternally grateful for you and your courage and resilience. We hope to be there for you in any way possible during this time and we are so grateful to even be considered as the adoptive parents for your baby.

About Us

Our story began in February of 2018. We both attended the Baptist Student Union (BSU), a college ministry at Ole Miss. James was sitting alone waiting on a couple of his friends to show up and I made my way over to introduce myself. I was pretty much interested from the beginning, but James took a bit to come around 😉 We slowly became best friends and finally started dating the summer of 2019. We dated about a year and a half before getting engaged in December of 2020 and got married in the town we met in December of 2021.

Our Home / Community

Our home is a cozy 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage style house on the last block our the street. Our neighborhood is a quiet and safe neighborhood full of families with children or elderly neighbors with grandchildren who visit often. We have many different families that we are extremely close with that are short walks away. Our neighborhood is the perfect area for walks and riding bikes. There are always children playing outside or people walking their dogs.

Our house is often full of youth students which brings in a great deal of love, laughter, and fun. We have a HUGE backyard that our dogs particularly love!

The community we live in is a rural and diverse small town. There is not much in our little town, but our little town has much to offer! It is full of wonderful people who love well, a good school that our children will be a part of one day, and plenty of extra curriculars to be involved in. Our town is very family oriented, and offers many different things for families.

Family Activities / Traditions

One of our favorite activities we do together is definitely Ole Miss sports. We met at Ole Miss and enjoy any time we get to go back to Oxford. During football season, we make it to Oxford for at least 2-3 football games.

We both come from very large families who enjoy spending time together. James’ dad passed away in high school; however, before he got sick they did a yearly crawfish boil the weekend of his birthday, Memorial Day Weekend. Over the last several years, James’ older brother has carried on the tradition and it is something we look forward to yearly.

Abby’s parents moved to a lake last year so there have been many weekends recently dedicated to riding the boat and learning water sports. We can’t wait to take our future kids out to the lake and enjoy that time with them.

Another HUGE tradition, especially for James’ family growing up is opening weekend for deer hunting. James’ family has a hunting cabin about 30 minutes from our house and each year, we go and sleepover the night before and get up super early that Saturday morning to go hunting. The girls usually spend time together at the cabin while the boys hunt and we spend time laughing and making memories the whole weekend.

Our Adoption Journey

Before we ever dated, we both had longed to adopt individually. At the beginning of our relationship, we talked about how we both longed to adopt one day, and knew that it was something we always longed to do. After we got married, it became a much more serious topic of conversation. We believe adoption is a picture of the Gospel, which is why it is so important to us. We never knew when we would start the adoption process, just that we would one day! After much prayer and careful consideration, we decided that our “when” is “now”. We have spent much time in prayer over this decision and are ecstatic for what is to come!
