WAITING FAMILIES
Helson and Andrea
Dear Birthmother,
We have been waiting for so long to meet you. We hope you understand how much this means to us that you would consider our family for your child’s home. We’ve prayed for you and thank God that He has brought us together. What you’re doing shows such incredible courage and strength as we have no doubt that your journey to this point has been filled with so many obstacles and challenges. We’re proud of you and are honored to know you.
The fact that you would consider our profile makes us grateful. We hope that you are able to see just how much warmth and love our home will offer to your child. Though you are just seeing us for the first time, we believe that God has put us together for the benefit of your child. Your consideration means the world to us, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
We promise to love your child completely and fully. Your child will never experience a day without the warmth and affection that comes from a safe place full of love and care. We promise to give our very best each and every day to raise your child in a home where happiness and joy are all around. Your child will be encouraged to pursue after greatness and to follow dreams leading to a destiny that only God fully knows.
We recognize that your ultimate decision of a family for your child will be one of the most challenging in your life. We pray that God gives you wisdom and peace to choose the family that He has destined for your child. We hope that as you view our profile you see us for the values that we hold dear, the life we work to build, and the love that we have to share with your child. Thank you for considering us.
About Us
Helson is 45 years old. He has a wonderful personality that keeps everyone laughing while also being one of the most compassionate people I know. He’s caring, loyal, a great listener and incredibly thoughtful. He’s currently working to finalize his bachelor’s degree and he presently serves as a Campus Pastor for a ministry in west Tennessee. He loves tacos, trying new restaurants, being outdoors, and encouraging people in their journey of faith. His idea of a perfect day would include a slow morning with coffee, cooking breakfast and relaxing outdoors with friends/family. One fun fact about him is he plays drums, bass and sings as well.
Andrea makes our house a home. She is caring, nurturing and always makes sure that I have everything I need to have a great and productive day. She loves to laugh and lives life to the fullest. She is 40 years old and an event manager by profession. She LOVES chocolate. She is an incredible baker and loves to try new techniques in the kitchen. She is a foodie, which means she likes to try new restaurants and new environments. She loves her garden and enjoys cooking with ingredients that she has grown. Her idea of a perfect day involves sleeping in and enjoying a late brunch full of pastries and fresh fruits. She loves being outdoors during sunny days enjoying a good book. Evenings are meant to be spent around a big table with friends and family enjoying a made-from-scratch meal. She once met Ree Drummund and participated in a professional cooking course. She also likes to dabble in woodworking.
We have been married for 13 years. We had our first meeting in Indiana through an introduction set up by Andrea’s aunt and uncle who were pastoring in Wisconsin. While we had a very nice first introduction, Helson was living in Indianapolis and Andrea was furthering her career in Chicago. At that time, our lives weren’t in a place to build a relationship. However, we reconnected six months later in Indianapolis at a church where Helson served on the Worship Team and Andrea’s parents attended. Andrea had moved back to the Indianapolis area from Chicago to take a job and began attending church with her parents. We had our first date on a Thursday night to watch an Indianapolis Colts game and have been inseparable ever since. From our first date until today, we’ve developed a life of love and adventure. We accepted the call to full-time ministry in 2015 and through all of the ups and downs, we have experienced such a wonderful life of service, grace, and provision as God has had His hand on our lives. We now are honored to serve as Campus Pastors for a wonderful ministry in Tennessee. We live just outside of city limits and enjoy country living with our two Golden Retrievers, Duke and Crosby.
Our Home / Community
Our home is a special dwelling place full of love, laughter and joy. We live in a two story, four bedroom, two bath home on one acre in the country. One of our favorite rooms in the home is our kitchen as it’s the place where many memories are made. Our favorite things include cooking/baking, gardening and enjoying the outdoors (bonfires, playing with our dogs and cookouts with friends/family). Our small community values faith, family and a tight-knit closeness that comes from a place of caring for your neighbor. We’re blessed to live life with families that value friendship and a sense of civic pride. The best parts of our home are the memories made, the moments that make us, and the grace of God that saturates every area of our life.
Family Activities / Traditions
One of things we’ve always enjoyed doing together is cooking/baking. Helson managed restaurants early in his career and breakfast/grilling has always been his specialty. Andrea grew up in a family that had many great bakers and learned a love of baking from her mother, grandmothers and aunts.
When we’re able, we love to visit new places and try new things. We love the country, farmers markets, mountains, and learning about new experiences. One of our favorite things to do is to try new restaurants. Both of us have lived in Chicagoland at different points in our life and loved the different types of restaurants and cuisines we were able to experience.
Gardening has become a newer hobby for us, and we’ve really enjoyed it. This year is our third year doing a small garden in our backyard and we’re excited to try some new herbs and vegetables this year.
One of our core values in being part of this ministry is we are blessed to be a blessing. In addition to serving as campus pastors, we enjoy serving in various teams within the church such as the worship team, kids ministry and planning events for the church. It’s a blessing to serve other team members and families in these areas of our church.
Our Adoption Journey
In the midst of trying to conceive naturally for eight to nine years, we began to have discussions about adoption as a possibility for growing our family. For quite some time, we could never find an inner peace about adoption. However, in October 2022, we attended a church conference in Chattanooga, TN and came away with a sense that we needed to revisit adoption. After looking into the process more, we realized that we had a community of families in our church that have adopted domestically, and we really felt that the Lord had finally graced us with peace to pursue a domestic adoption. As we continue to progress further into the process, our excitement has grown, and God has reaffirmed our decision at every junction. We have received continual confirmation in our adoption journey through the professionals we have interacted with and others that have been brought into our life.
