What If I Can’t Afford to Have a Baby Right Now?

August 31, 2021

Many women who are unexpectedly pregnant ask this question. What if I can’t afford to have a baby right now?  Bringing a child into the world is a lot to take on, and it can be financially overwhelming. A lot of birth mothers don’t feel ready to take on the financial weight of providing for a child. If you currently feel this way, please know that there are many other women who have walked this same road. You have some big decisions ahead of you, but you also have options to help you make the best decision possible for both you and your unborn child.

Examine Your Current Lifestyle

Single parenting can be a very stressful experience, especially if you don’t feel that you are in a place to financially support a child. Examine your current situation, and think about what it might look like to bring a child into your home. Can you provide financially? What would child care look like? Do you have family and friends who are supportive? If you don’t think that you are in a place to support a child long-term, there are other options that will still provide your child with a lifetime of love.

Talk To Your Support System

You shouldn’t have to make these big decisions alone. It’s important to have people you trust who can help you navigate through the different options. Do you have a close friend or family member who is a good listener? Who is someone you would go to for advice? We know it can be difficult to bring up this topic with people in your life. If you don’t feel that you have a safe person to talk to, our care team is always available to talk and answer any questions. There is no obligation to work with us. You can always text us at 662-507-1389.

Consider Alternative Options

Many women in this situation feel that they don’t know where to turn, but every birth mother has options and rights. Some women consider how they could raise the child themselves. Others learn about how an adoption plan can ensure a stable home for the child. As a birth mother, you can qualify for financial support.  This takes a huge weight off of your shoulders so that you don’t have to worry about every medical bill and expense during pregnancy and birth.

It’s normal to have a lot of questions about your options. Many women come to us and ask, “What if I can’t afford to have a baby right now?” While these questions might feel overwhelming, there is a lot of support available to you. It might help to hear from other birth mothers who have taken this journey before you. You can always reach out to our team with any questions or concerns you might have about the adoption process.
