How To Help Someone Facing an Unplanned Pregnancy

January 31, 2020

When a friend learns that she is facing an unplanned pregnancy, it can be a very lonely experience. It’s important to have people she can talk to about how she is feeling. There are big decisions ahead, and this isn’t something that anyone should walk through alone. If you know someone who is experiencing this, here are four ways you can help someone facing an unplanned pregnancy:

Listen To Her Story

Sometimes the best thing you can do is be with her. She is experiencing so many different emotions and fears, and your presence can remind her that she isn’t alone. Listen to her process what has happened and what she is feeling about both the past and the future.

Let Her Know You Are A Safe Person To Talk To

It’s very vulnerable to share this with someone during such a sensitive time. Make sure that you let her know that you are a safe person to talk to. Be sure to tell her that you will not judge her for any of her decisions. It’s important to say this to her out loud so that she knows you are always a safe person to call.

Help Her Learn About Her Options

Whenever someone has to make a big decision, it helps to be able to process your thoughts with a trusted friend. This might be one of the biggest decisions she has faced in her life so far. There are a lot of different options, and it can be difficult to know which one is best for her circumstance. You can help her learn more about her options here.

Offer To Attend An Appointment With Her

If she is hesitant about making a doctor’s appointment or an appointment at an adoption agency, offer to go with her. It can be intimidating to enter these appointments alone. It helps to have someone supporting you throughout these steps.
